should I choose FastVirtual over another hosting provider?
How
long does it take for my new account to be activated?
Your FastVirtual account is immediately activated upon completion
of the signup process. You can then log in to your account control panel
and add your chosen hosting plan. If you selected to pay for your account
by credit card, your hosting plan will be immediately activated. If
you selected another payment method, your hosting plan will be activated
when we receive your payment. We therefore recommend that you initially
choose to pay by credit card.
Do
you support plug-ins like VRML, QuickTime, Shockwave, and Live3D?
Yes. Our servers are not fussy about the files they serve. Almost all web content
utilizes a small number of file types, so you
shouldn't have any problems including various plug-ins. If you find that we're
missing a MIME type, let us know and we may be able to add it for you.

Do
you provide Microsoft FrontPage extensions?
Yes. Microsoft FrontPage 2002 extensions are included with all hosting
plans. FrontPage 2002 extensions are fully compatible with all earlier

Do
you support Miva (HTMLscript)?
Yes. Miva is supported on all accounts. Please visit our

Do
you provide SSL (secure) hosting?
Yes. SSL support, secure storefront options, and eCommerce solutions are

Do
you provide Telnet or shell access?
No. Depending on account type, we provide one or more private
FTP accounts for uploading
and managing your web site. You may also use
Webby, available through
your account control panel, or
Microsoft FrontPage.
How
do I change my hosting account from one package to another? Can
I
switch from a basic plan to a domain plan? Can I change my account
name
or domain name?
You can upgrade your account from your account control panel, without
the need to sign-up or upload files again. There is no setup fee to
upgrade your account from a basic (yourname.fastvirtual.com) plan to
a domain (yourname.com) plan. Changing an account name or domain name
on an existing account incurs a $25 setup fee, plus any applicable domain
registration fees. New domain names can be quickly and easily registered
from your account control panel.
Can
I use a private FTP account as an anonymous FTP service?
No. Nor is this necessary. Private FTP accounts are intended for
managing and uploading to
your web site. Anonymous FTP is included with the all web hosting plans.

Will
FastVirtual host my site if I have offensive or pornographic content?
No. Although we respect the First Amendment rights of individuals,
we are not prepared to host
sites which we consider to be objectionable. Adult-oriented sites
attract too many visitors, too quickly, and this would adversely affect
both our support staff and other
customers.
Can
I send spam from a FastVirtual account?
No. FastVirtual defines spam as mass, unsolicited email messages. Any
account that sends spam will be terminated immediately. The
offending account will be charged "Theft of Service" fines up to $0.50
per message, and will also be billed a $5.00 processing fee for each complaint received.
What
payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover),
personal and business checks, cashier's checks (bank drafts), money
orders, and international money orders. Payments must be in U.S. currency,
and payments by check or money order must be drawn on a U.S. bank. We
accept wire transfers for amounts over two hundred dollars; a $10.00
processing fee applies. Because we do not activate new accounts until
payment is received, we recommend that you initially pay using a credit
card.
What
is the difference between an email forward (alias) and an email
account?
An email account is a mailbox that stores and sends email
messages. An email forward
(also known as an "email alias") is simply a pointer to an
existing email address.
Email forwards can point to email accounts hosted by FastVirtual, or
to 3rd party email addresses. For detailed information about the
various email options, please see the email
overview.
Do
you provide toll-free phone support?
Yes. Toll-free phone support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week. For details of all FastVirtual support options, please visit

Can
I change the domain name for an existing hosting plan?
Yes. Hosting plans with both basic account names (yourname.fastvirtual.com)
and domain names (yourname.com) can be changed. The process
is subject to a one-time $25 setup fee.
Upgrades from basic hosting plans to domain plans are not subject
to setup fees.
New domain names also incur domain registration fees.
Domain names can be easily registered from the "Domains" area of your account
control panel.
How
do I upgrade or modify my service?
Use use your account control panel to instantly add or change account
options and services. If you don't see an automatic way to perform the
appropriate changes, please contact us.
Does
FastVirtual support Java, JavaScript and server side Java?
FastVirtual supports all client-side scripting languages, including Java and
JavaScript. As there is no stable Java engine
FreeBSD, we don't currently support server side Java. We may consider this in the future
if this becomes available.
Do
you support Active Server Pages, Cold Fusion, Microsoft Access,
Microsoft Visual Interdev, Microsoft SQL Server, IIS or VBScript?
No. FastVirtual is a UNIX hosting provider and these
technologies are currently only available for Microsoft Windows
server platforms.
